I made this. And you should too. There are only 3 main ingredients and it’s totally customizable. You could add your fave essential oils for an extra boost. Trust me when I tell you it will leave your hair super juicy. Moisturized. Nourished. All the good things you want from a leave-in conditioner. The ratio I use works best for dense, curly or textured hair, but if you have a thinner, looser texture add more aloe and less oil (or shea butter). Scroll down and I’ll share how to make leave-in conditioner at home. If there is any chance you need a thicker formula, give this one a try 😉

Air-tight container

  • I’ve repurposed an old glass jar, but if you don’t have anything handy, you can order something similar that I’ve linked here
  • I try to repurpose old bottles and jars whenever possible, since it’s a great way to be more eco-friendly
  • Make sure your container is air-tight to have as long a shelf life as possible

How to make leave-in conditioner at home

How to make

  1. Add 1/3 shea butter to a large mixing bowl. This process is easier if you break it up into smaller pieces beforehand
  2. Use your electric mixer to whip the shea butter until creamy, and scrape down the sides of the mixing bowl as needed
  3. Add 1/3 grape seed oil to the mixing bowl and whip until well combined
  4. Next, add 1/3 cup aloe vera gel a little at a time, whipping on high, until incorporated. The mixture should be a fluffy consistency
  5. Now, add your essential oils. I’ve used 6 drops Rosemary, 12 drops Geranium and 6 drops Lavender. But can use whatever you like/have
  6. Use a spatula to scoop into your air-tight container. Refrigerate when not in use

How to use

  • I apply to wet hair after co-washing or rinsing out my regular conditioner on wash day
  • You could also apply to re-moisturize dry hair as needed
  • The aloe vera contains preserving agents, so this leave-in conditioner should keep with refrigeration
  • Now that you’ll learned how to make leave-in conditioner at home, what’s next? Any chance you need a pre-poo/detangler?
