I have a big head. And ALOT of curly hair. I am often running out of hair products, and so I have learned the value of making my own when I’ve run out. Deep conditioner has always been the tricky one to make, since a lot of the DIYs around use egg, mayonnaise or other animal products. My recipe is vegan-friendly and doesn’t require blending or straining like others that call for banana or avocado. Cheers! Scroll down to make your own deep conditioner.
What you need
Mayonnaise
- Is a natural hair conditioner
- Calms frizzy hair and has curl defining properties
- I’ve used a vegan mayonnaise, but regular mayo will work as well, and will make this a protein treatment too
Olive oil
- Stimulates hair growth
- Is a natural hair conditioner
- Adds shine
Vegetable glycerin
- Is known as a humectant, and is great at moisturizing
- Promotes hair growth
- Strengthens and prevents breakage
Lavender essential oil
- Promotes hair growth
- Fortifies scalp
- Has conditioning properties
Rosemary essential oil
- Discourages hair loss
- Nourishes the scalp and promotes hair growth
- Increases hair thickness

How to make
- To your mixing bowl, get ready to add:
- 3 tablespoons of Mayonnaise, followed by 1 tablespoon of Olive oil
- Then add 1 teaspoon of Vegetable glycerin
- Next, add 5 drops each of Lavender and Rosemary essential oils
- Mix to combine until smooth
- Add to your air-tight container
- All done!
Ways to use
- Apply generously to freshly washed or co-washed hair in sections
- Leave in for 1 hour
- Rinse out completely with warm water
- Moisturize with this and this when you’re done!
- This recipe makes enough for one application for me and my large head of hair
- Refrigerate any leftovers
