I have a big head. And ALOT of curly hair. I am often running out of hair products, and so I have learned the value of making my own when I’ve run out. Deep conditioner has always been the tricky one to make, since a lot of the DIYs around use egg, mayonnaise or other animal products. My recipe is vegan-friendly and doesn’t require blending or straining like others that call for banana or avocado. Cheers! Scroll down to make your own deep conditioner.

Mayonnaise

  • Is a natural hair conditioner
  • Calms frizzy hair and has curl defining properties
  • I’ve used a vegan mayonnaise, but regular mayo will work as well, and will make this a protein treatment too

How to make

  1. To your mixing bowl, get ready to add:
  2. 3 tablespoons of Mayonnaise, followed by 1 tablespoon of Olive oil
  3. Then add 1 teaspoon of Vegetable glycerin
  4. Next, add 5 drops each of Lavender and Rosemary essential oils
  5. Mix to combine until smooth
  6. Add to your air-tight container
  7. All done!

Ways to use

  • Apply generously to freshly washed or co-washed hair in sections
  • Leave in for 1 hour
  • Rinse out completely with warm water
  • Moisturize with this and this when you’re done!
  • This recipe makes enough for one application for me and my large head of hair
  • Refrigerate any leftovers
