I had no idea how unhealthy my store-bought anti-perspirant/deodorant was. Most anti-perspirants contain ingredients that have been linked to endocrine disruption and could possibly cause cancer. I am not taking any chances, and would rather be safe than sorry down the line, ya know? Ditch the unhealthy anti-perspirants with me and make this all-natural, yet effective DIY Natural Deodorant. You won’t regret it!

Baking soda
- pH balancing
- Eliminates odors
- Soothes itchy skin
Arrowroot powder
- I used tapioca starch in the video (above), but any starchy flour will work here
- Arrowroot is finer and most absorbent, so use it if you can
- It effectively absorbs liquid from the skin
- Also contains herbal and anti-fungal properties
Bentonite clay
- Encourages pH balance due to its mineral content
- Helps remove environmental toxins and encourages detoxification
- Is an effective drying agent
Coconut oil
- Has anti-bacterial, antiviral and antimicrobial properties
- It solidifies at colder temperatures, so it holds its shape
Lavender essential oil
- If you use only one essential oil, choose Lavender
- Has antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties
- Has a great scent
Clary Sage essential oil
- Has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties
- Heals wounds and reduces eruptive skin conditions
- Has a calming aroma
Rosemary essential oil
- Highly beneficial for the skin and body
- Has antibacterial, antiseptic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties
- Fades marks, improves skin and also enhances circulation
- Has an uplifting fragrance
Deodorant dispenser
- I repurposed a previously-used (but clean!) deodorant dispenser for this recipe
- Reusing containers is an easy way to be more eco-friendly and lower your plastic usage
- Store-bought deodorant packaged in plastic will end up requiring recycling
How to make
- To a mixing bowl get ready to add:
- 1/4 cup each of Baking soda and Arrowroot powder
- Next, add 1 tbsp of Bentonite clay
- Mix to combine, then add:
- 1/2 cup of Coconut oil
- Next, add 5 drops each of Lavender essential oil, Clary Sage essential oil and Rosemary essential oil
- Give it all a good mix
- Scoop into your dispenser
- Refrigerate for 1 hour to solidify
- Apply to underarms as needed!
- Enjoy!
Worth noting
- No metal! Bentonite clay reacts to metal, so keep metal mixing spoons, metal measuring spoons and metal bowls away. We want our DIY Natural Deodorant to be as effective as possible!
