You know that styling cream you bought at Target for over $10 ⏤ what if I told you that you could make your very own version at home for a fraction of the price?! Once you pick up the ingredients, you’ll be able to make and re-make this whipped natural hair butter over and over and over again. Plus, you can customize it and use all the ingredients I did, or just the few that you want. This recipe uses all-natural ingredients that promote healthy hair, and uses none of the icky stuff that may or may not be hiding in that store bought cream. It’s definitely the gift that keeps on giving!

Air-tight container

  • I’ve repurposed an old glass jar, but if you don’t have anything handy, you can order something similar that I’ve linked here
  • I try to repurpose old bottles and jars whenever possible, since it’s a great way to be more eco-friendly
  • Make sure your container is air-tight to have as long a shelf life as possible

Whipped natural hair butter

How to make

  1. Add 8 ounces of Shea butter followed by 1 tbsp of Coconut oil to the mixing bowl.
  2. Next, add 1 tsp each of Olive oil, Castor oil and Grape seed oils followed by 1/2 tsp of Vitamin E oil.
  3. Followed by 20 drops total of your favorite essential oils. I used 12 drops of Lavender and 8 drops of Melaleuca (Tea tree) here.
  4. Use the electric hand mixer to combine all ingredients into a whipped consistency. Start at a low setting and increase as necessary until a light, fluffy texture is reached. Be warned, this may get a bit messy!
  5. Once everything is well combined, add to your air-tight container.
  6. Optional: I used a plastic bag to pipe my hair butter into my container. To do so, simply cut a hole into the corner of your plastic bag and squeeze to neatly dispense.
  7. All done!

How to use

  • I use this whipped natural hair butter to keep my hair moisturized after cleansing and deep conditioning. I apply a small amount to wet or damp sectioned hair from roots to ends making sure to work the product in.
  • Note: A little bit goes a long way!
  • Works great as a styler for twist-outs and braid-outs too!
