I’m not a fan of the phrase, “There’s more than one way to skin a cat.” Why are we trying to skin cats? Unfortunately, I’m sure there is more than one way. Similar to how there are multiple ways of doing anything and everything. Well, a little while back, I formulated a recipe for hand sanitizer spray, and since then, I’ve come up with another (aka this very post you are reading). So, maybe we should start saying “There’s more than one way to make hand sanitizer spray at home.” 😉

At least 60% alcohol / Over 150 proof
- An effective disinfectant
- Safe for multipurpose use without any of the toxicity
- In line with the CDC guidelines
Vegetable glycerin
- Safe and non-toxic
- Improves skin imperfections by holding in moisture
- Has natural skin healing properties
OnGuard essential oil
- Supports healthy immune and respiratory function
- Protects agains environmental threats, such as influenza
- Supports the body’s natural antioxidant defenses
- Energizing and uplifting aroma
- Optional, but highly recommended
Spray bottle
- I actually up-cycled an old essential oil bottle by purchasing an additional spray nozzle (linked here)
- Glass is always the preference when working with essential oils
- Dark or UV-protected glass helps to retain the effective properties of the essential oils

How to make
- If you’re using an empty essential oil bottle like I am, you’ll need to remove the clear topper that allows the essential oil to dispense one drop at a time. To see how I did it, watch the video above
- Next, add 3 tsps of Alcohol, followed by 1 tsp of Vegetable glycerin
- If you’re adding essential oils, now’s the time to add 10 drops
- That’s it! Now add your spray nozzle and shake to combine
- If you’ve purchased a nozzle, you may need to cut the plastic straw down to fit inside the essential oil bottle
- All done!
Ways to use
- Shake before each use
- Spray a few pumps into one hand
- Then rub hands together to distribute
- Allow hands to dry completely without wiping on a towel
- This recipe makes enough to fit a 15mL essential oil bottle, but feel free to increase as needed keeping the ratios consistent
- Enjoy!
