We’ve been going about this all wrong people. Do you know the difference between antibacterial and antimicrobial? Did you even know that antimicrobial was a thing? I sure didn’t. Not until recently. Apparently, antibacterial kills germs. But, falls short of killing other microorganisms that can actually cause us to get sick. Enter antimicrobial! It not only kills the bacteria, but also prevents the spread of bacteria, fungi, parasites and some viruses. Good thing, I’ve assembled a dream team of antimicrobials for this here DIY Antimicrobial foaming hand soap. Feel free to geek out on the supporting research here. But if you’d prefer to only attack on the antibacterial level, who am I to judge? Here‘s just the thing you’ll need.

Liquid castile soap
- All-natural and plant-based
- Non-toxic
- Gentle, yet effective
Distilled water
- Best option for the cleanest DIY Antimicrobial foaming hand soap possible
- If you don’t have distilled water on hand, don’t fret! Filtered water is a close second
- It doesn’t contain any of the nasty minerals found in tap water
Grape seed oil
- Penetrates and nourishes the skin
- Moisturizing for the skin
- A lighter oil that is great for all skin types
Thyme essential oil
- One of the strongest antioxidants known
- Has antiseptic properties, and kills infections on the skin and within the body
- Is antibacterial and inhibits bacterial growth
Eucalyptus essential oil
- Has ability to fight bacterial, viral and fungal infections
- Also widely used in products to fight foreign pathogens, not to mention different forms of infections as well
Tea tree essential oil
- Is anti-bacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic and antiviral
- Has purifying and cleansing properties
Lavender essential oil
- Has antibacterial, antimicrobial and anti-oxidant properties
- Has cleansing properties too!
- Fresh, pleasant fragrance
Foaming soap dispenser
- Is the key to a proper foaming hand soap, soap will not foam without one
- You can re-use a foaming dispenser you already have, or purchase a new one (the one I use is linked here)
- I love foaming soap since it uses a fraction of the amount of soap of a typical soap dispenser saving cash money honey

How to make
- Open up your foaming soap dispenser and get ready to add:
- 1/4 cup of Castile soap
- 1 tsp of Grapeseed oil
- 5 drops each of Thyme, Tea tree and Eucalyptus essential oils
- Next, add 10 drops of Lavender essential oil
- Fill the rest of the dispenser with distilled water, but be sure to leave room to screw the cap back on
- Make sure the cap is tightly sealed
- Give it a shake to combine
- All done!
How to use
- Use this DIY Antimicrobial foaming hand soap as you would any other liquid soap
- I use 1.5 pumps is the perfect amount for adult hands. 1 pump for kiddo hands!

Thanks so much for putting this information out here for us! How about a 33.8oz container? I figured doubling but not enough..
Yes, you can double this recipe. The containers I used were 15 oz, so if you double it, you will have just about 30 oz.
